Mission 11: Operation: Fallout

1. Survival – *** You will come under attack from multiple points very early on. Survival in this level is key, as the attacks will be varied and often. The attack phase, with the strategy I developed, is fairly easy; you just need to stay alive long enough to use the strategy. You will need to do all five of the following things fairly quickly, within the first minute or two, or you will be seriously hurt from one or more directions.

At the start of the level your navy will be under attack from squids and subs. Keep your Navy back so that they do not draw more attackers. OPTIONAL: With the strategy I found, Naval control is not needed at all. So you can choose whether or not to defend your naval base, or whether you want to battle with the Soviets over control of the seas. On my later play-throughs, I pretty much ignored the navy.

Churn out a large squad of rocketeers first, as these will provide you with a mobile counter-strike force.

Send 2 groups of GI’s across the southern bridge to defend the southern ore factory (put some GI’s in the Lighthouse). Also, build some pillboxes below the ore refinery, as one of the first heavy assaults will fall here.

Send another group of GI’s east and put them in one of the buildings. Paratroopers and enemy Engineers will continually come from this direction, but your garrisoned buildings should take them out.

A pair of Dreadnoughts will start bombarding your base from the Southeast about a minute or two after you start. The easiest way to get them, since your navy will still be bottled up at this point, is with air power. For this reason, you should also start buildings some planes immediately upon gaining battlefield control. Use the planes and the rocketeers to destroy the Dreadnoughts before they can cause serious harm. But be careful, these 2 ships will be guarded at first by anti-air Sea Scorpions.

2. Build-up – Once you’ve survived these initial attacks and have set up some base defenses (mostly you’ll need them in the north now) build up your tech tree as fast as possible. A Battle Lab is needed to make Dolphins, which will be your cheapest effective naval unit (if you chose to continue the naval fight). Spy Sat is a necessary to head off and destroy the transports with your Rocketeer squad. It will also become even more important later in the level. And finally, you must construct the new superweapon, the Chronosphere. By the time the Chronosphere is built and is ready to be used, you should have a Blackhawk helicopter with 2 spies in it, ready to be used.

A huge help to protecting your base is to cut the northern bridge leading to your base with a couple of Grizzlies. But if you just cut the bridge, enemy Engineers will repair it shortly. But with your Battle Lab up you’ll have access to Mirage Tanks, which are perfect for infantry. Send three or four Mirage Tanks to the city to the west to head off infantry there, and leave 3 or 4 positioned at the northern end of the bridge leading to your base, then destroy the bridge. These 3-4 Mirages will keep any Engineers from repairing the bridge, relieving pressure from your northern front.

3. Assault - The attack phase for this level is fairly sneaky, yet very time and cost efficient (I beat the level in 25 minutes, with a par time of 1 hour 20 minutes). Once the Chronosphere is ready, teleport the Blackhawk (with spies in it) to BELOW the enemy base, to the right of the center of their base, near the cliffs. Unload the spies and send them to the eastern entrance to the base, being careful of the dog patrol. Send one spy into the ore refinery for a cash boost and the other into the War Factory just inside the base. With this stolen cash, start cranking out as many Veteran Prism Tanks as you can, which will all have increased range.

You should have at least 5 or 6 by the next Chronoshift, teleport these to the same spot as the chopper (or to the equivalent spot on the left side of the base). Attack from below the base, hitting the Tesla Coil nearest the Conyard and then the Conyard itself (all from OUTSIDE the walls). This will get the enemy’s attention, in a bad way, so take some time out to destroy some of the troops trying to reach you (most will be prevented from attacking you by the wall). With the Conyard destroyed, blast the nearest Nuke. Then swing your Prisms around to the south, around the outside of the base, and get the other Nuke that is close to the wall. Depending on how fast you work, the Apocalypse tanks may have already reached you, either by going out of the base or by blasting through the walls.

In one of my play-throughs, I was able to destroy the attacking Apocalypse tanks, go in through the hole they made in the wall, and blast the last nuke (blowing up all 3 nukes ends the level). But often the Apocalypses will get your Prism Tanks before you can get all 3 Nukes. If they do, simply have another 5-6 Prisms ready for the next Chronoshift, drop them in the same spot, and finish what you started (avoiding any Apocalypse tanks that may have reached Veteran status).
